"I loved the variety of accommodation. We stayed in everything from 5 star hotels to sleeping under the stars in the Sahara (who's going to believe me?!)"

Short Breaks for Women

Wairarapa Walking and Wine Short Break

Wairarapa Walking and Wine

If hiking amongst native bush, relaxing in a spa pool, and exploring the vineyards of the Wairarapa by bike sounds like just what you need on your short break, then this is the trip for you! It's not strenuous, but a lot of fun...

Dates: 16-19 November 2010 (4 days/3 nights)
Price: NZ$650
Meeting Point: Masterton (or Wellington, but this will cost extra)
Maximum number: 10

Price includes all transport, all meals(most of the meals are home cooked country fare, plus morning and afternoon teas) a guide and all accommodation. Alcohol is not included.
Sleeping bags are required.

Day one:
Meet and begin the walk at 1pm, walking through beautiful native bush for 3 hours. We take afternoon tea at a picnic area surrounded by bush, then continue on for another 40 mins to either a bush cabin or lodge overlooking the wetlands (where we stay depends on numbers)

Day two:
Begin at 9 am from bush cabin or 10.30am from lodge. We have lunch overlooking a lovely valley and then continue on through the bush on old logging tracks to "The Wilderness Cafe" for afternoon tea. This is an old scrub cutters hut that has been restored.
We arrive at Reef Hill cabins for the night about 5 pm. This is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the river and spend some time in the spa with a glass of wine before dinner.

Day three:
Time to explore the surrounding area, have a late morning tea before walking for an hour back to the end of the track.
Its then a only short drive to the National Wildlife Centre we have a relaxing lunch.
We spend the night in the lovely Wairarapa countryside with time to enjoy the country hospitality.

Day four:
A nice sleep in before being picked up and transported to the Opaki area for a few hours of fun exploring the local vineyards by bike. Most of the emphasis is placed on eating and wine tasting, so this is the time to kick back and enjoy the last of the beautiful Wairarapa, before heading home.
